From Lawman to Advocate: Castillo Seeks Justice for Communities Caught in ICE Crossfire

LOS ANGELES, June 19, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Retired LAPD detective and veteran investigator Moses Castillo has issued a formal letter to Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, urging a more focused and community-conscious approach to immigration enforcement in Southern California.
In his letter, Castillo praised ICE for targeting violent gang members and serious threats but warned that recent operations have risked sweeping up otherwise law-abiding, hardworking immigrants—undermining community trust and public safety.
"I've worn the badge. I know the difference between a threat and a neighbor," Castillo said. "ICE should focus on the truly dangerous—not the dishwasher, the gardener, or the nanny."
As the son of a Mexican immigrant, Castillo brings a personal dimension to his advocacy for fairness in enforcement.
"My mother's journey taught me that dignity and due process aren't optional—they're American," he said. "When enforcement is indiscriminate, trust evaporates—and so does public safety."
Castillo is requesting a meeting with Secretary Noem, community stakeholders, and law enforcement leaders to explore strategies that uphold both security and justice.
"We can protect our communities without tearing them apart."
